8月28日《自由時報》報導，世大運期間，有位塞爾維亞籍選手想到桃園市區買慢跑鞋，但是不認識路，求助當地警察，熱心的警員江振維用流利的英文為他指路，桃園市政府警察局在臉書分享這個故事，原來這位警員平日自修英文（多益英檢850分），塞爾維亞選手為了報答他的幫忙，回程還特地買了珍珠奶茶送給江姓警員。 受到這個溫馨小故事的啟發，本週的FUNDAY blog要和大家分享遇到迷路（getting lost）的情境時，如何用英文「問路」（ask for directions）和「指路」（give directions），讓我們一起學習用一口好英文做國民外交吧！
Asking for Directions 問路
- Excuse me. Where is the nearest MRT station?
不好意思，請問最近的捷運站在哪裡？
- Sorry to bother you, but would you mind showing me the way to Shilin Night Market?
抱歉打擾了，可不可以請你告訴我到士林夜市的路怎麼走？
- Hello! Good afternoon. May I ask where Howard Plaza Hotel is?
Or Can you help me find Howard Plaza Hotel?
你好，午安，可以請問福華飯店怎麼走嗎？
- Could you please point me in the direction of Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall?
可以請你告訴我中正紀念堂該往哪個方向走嗎？
- May I ask you a question? This is my first time in the city. How do I get to the National Palace?
可以請教你一個問題嗎？ 這是我第一次到這個城市，故宮博物院該怎麼走呢？
Giving Directions 指路
- walk along/ walk straight down 直走
Or go straight on/ahead
Walk along Xinsheng South Road until you see the Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station.
新生南路直走，一直到看到忠孝新生捷運站。
Go straight on at the (traffic) lights and then you’ll see a police station.
看到紅綠燈直走，你會看到有一個警察局。
- turn left/ right 左轉/右轉
Or make a left/right turn
Turn left at the intersection and the park is on the right.
十字路口左轉，公園在右手邊。
- head to… 往⋯⋯方向走
Head to National Normal University and you’ll see the bakery on your left.
往師範大學方向走，你會看到麵包店在你左手邊。
- take the first/second left/right turn 第一/二個路口左/右轉
Take the second left turn and the museum will be on the right.
第二個路口左轉，博物館就在右手邊。
- continue down/follow 沿著⋯⋯走
Continue down Renai Street until you get to the bus stop.
沿著仁愛街走就會看到公車站。
Follow this street for 3 minutes before turning right on Zhongshan Road.
沿著這條街走三分鐘，然後在中山路右轉。
- beside… 在⋯⋯旁邊
The movie theater is beside Shinkong Mitsukoshi Department Store.
電影院就在新光三越百貨旁邊
- near… 在⋯⋯附近
The cinema is near the City Hall.
= The cinema is not far from/close to the City Hall.
電影院在市政府附近。
- to the left/right of… 在⋯⋯左/右邊
The bookstore is to the right of McDonald’s.
書店在麥當勞右手邊。
- in front of… 在⋯⋯前面
There is a statue in front of the train station.
火車站前面有座雕像。
- across from… 在⋯⋯對面
The department store is right across from the train station.
百貨公司就在火車站對面。
- at the crossroads/intersection of… 在⋯⋯交叉口（十字路口）
You’ll see a big shopping mall at the intersection of Zhongxing Road and Zhongshan Street.
中興路和中山街交叉口有一家大型購物中心。
- between 在⋯⋯之間
The pharmacy is between Starbucks and a bubble tea shop.
藥局在星巴克和珍珠奶茶店的中間。
- behind 在⋯⋯後面
The Korean restaurant is behind the MRT station.
那家韓國餐廳在捷運站後面。
- around the corner 在轉角
If you’re in front of the Apple Store, then the entrance to the MRT station is around the corner.
如果你在蘋果商店前面，那麼捷運站入口就在轉角。
