大家都知道片語except for、apart from以及單字except、besides皆用來表示「除了」，並且他們在用法上也有相似之處。因此小編今天想幫助大家學習辨別它們間之差異。

除了…之外、不包括

雖然這個單字與其片語意思相同，但用法上卻不同，不能互換。針對單字except，它後面既可接名詞、名詞片語，也可接子句、介系詞片語、甚至可接原型動詞、不定詞或動名詞。然而片語except for由於介系詞for之故，後面只能接名詞或名詞片語。

例句1：
You are allowed to smoke everywhere except in the lobby.
(你可以在除了大廳之外的任何地方抽菸。)
例句2：
The dish you cooked was great except that it could use more salt.
(你煮的這道菜很棒，就是味道可以再鹹一點。)
這兩個例句中的except無法以except for來替代，因為後面接的是介系詞片語及子句。

根據句子動詞部分的用法，except後也可接原型動詞、不定詞或動名詞。
例句1：
The boy didn’t do anything except cry last night.
(這個男孩昨晚除了哭以外什麼也沒做。)
＊由於助動詞didn’t，故except後面接的是原型動詞
例句2：
Jason is good at everything except swimming.
(傑森什麼都很擅長，除了游泳之外。)
＊動詞為片語be good at，故except後面接的是動名詞
例句3：
Wilson seldom goes out except to work.
(威爾森很少外出，除了工作之外。)
＊表示「目的、意圖」時，except後面使用不定詞

例句1：
My manager loves my report except for the few mistakes I made.
(除了我犯的幾個錯誤之外，我經理覺得我這份報告很好。)
例句2：
The parrot is totally green except for its yellow wings.
(這隻鸚鵡除了翅膀是黃色以外，其它地方都是綠色的。)

有個值得注意的地方是，只有當句子中出現「涵蓋所有」的詞（如all、any、every、nobody、nothing等等）時，except後面才會接名詞或名詞片語；此時except與except for便可互換。
例句1：
She won’t eat anything except/except for chicken nuggets and chips. (除了雞塊和洋芋片外，她不吃任何東西。)
例句2：
Nobody I know loves fishing except/except for him.
(我認識的人除了他之外，沒有人喜歡釣魚。)

另外，提醒大家except for可以放在句首，但except則不能。
例句：
Except for the service, I enjoy everything about this restaurant.
(除了服務之外，我覺得這間餐廳還不錯。)

例句1：

(除了這件洋裝外，我還買了一頂帽子和一雙鞋子。)
＊買的品項中包含洋裝
例句2：
Apart from the salary, it’s not a bad job.
(不考慮薪水的話，這份工作還不錯。)
＊不錯之處不包含薪水

besides只用於表達「包含」之意，因此上個例句1中的apart from亦可用besides來替換，語意不變。
例句：
Besides London, I’ve been to Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow.
(除了倫敦以外，我還去過曼徹斯特、里茲和格拉斯哥。)
