But as the conversations surrounding such topics as gender, sexuality and race have continued and diversified over the years, many have begun to wonder if the Baker flag and the community that stands behind are giving enough attention to some of its most marginalized members, including trans people and people of color.

This is where Quasar came in. Seeking to create a design that could show that being LGBT is not limited to loving someone of the same sex, he created “Progress”, a flag that adds an arrow of black, brown, and the trans colors, to the hoist of Baker’s original flag — left unchanged so as not to take away from the original meaning.

According to Quasar, this is to highlight what is most important to the community’s climate and to symbolize that progress needs to be made.

While all LGBT face some form of discrimination, some of the highest intensities are among trans and people of color.
