專訪青年勞動九五聯盟理事陳曉雯
There is a group of people who are not afraid to stand their ground. They are a group that link arms, form picket lines and fight for what they believe in, because what is not fought for now will only have to be suffered tomorrow.
有一群人在抗爭現場不害怕衝鋒陷陣，視拉扯與衝撞手段為必要，只擔心今天不挺身而出，明天就有可能發生更多的血淚故事，

They are the 95 Youth Labor Union, an organization consisting largely of young workers, college students, and scholars.

Chen Xiao-wen joined 95 Youth ten years ago. As a senior member of the union, she constantly butts heads with officials and business owners.

Through the work, Chen gained knowledge of the internal power structure of public and private institutions, and this has allowed her union to possess more bargaining chips and resources to supervise the government while carrying out effective negotiations with company heads.

According to a study released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, as of May last year, there were 805,000 atypical workers in Taiwan, accounting for 7.11% of the working population.

A labor group interpreted this as a symptom of Taiwan’s worsening job market, because of the instability and workers’ rights abuses that can occur in such positions.

Chen explains that hairdressing apprentices may work more than ten hours a day and that their amount of overtime could be worth over NT$500,000 over a three-year working period, but in many cases, they are not paid for it.
陳曉雯補充說明，美髮業學徒常常每天工作超過10小時，加班時數三年加總下來可能會來到50幾萬，但大多數沒有支薪。

Chen says that people in these situations should “stand their ground” and unionize their coworkers to fight for their rights and push for change.
面對這樣不平等的關係，曉雯鼓勵勞工採取「在地戰鬥」行動，也就是留在原地（原職場環境），組織相同處境的同事、夥伴們一起爭取權益、訴諸改變，並組成工會。

However, poor working conditions force workers to just quit and find other jobs, only to repeat the same cycle.

Nonetheless, as Chen says, “Times are changing, and as the years roll on, we won’t give up, nor will we let our principles slide. We’ll make sure that all of Taiwan moves forward together.”
