According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the cat scratch disease (CSD) is a bacterial infection spread by cats.

The disease spreads when a person’s open wound is licked by cats. It could even cause meningitis for those with weak immune systems.

Dr. Kuo-Ming Yeh of the Tri-Service General Hospital said that cats are susceptible to being infected with CSD through flea-bites and may possibly pass the bacteria onto humans through scratching and wound-licking.
