US senators have submitted a bill calling for action to help Taiwan regain its observer status in the World Health Organization (WHO).
美國參議員提交了一項法案,呼籲幫助台灣重獲世界衛生組織(WHO)的觀察員地位。

The bill was introduced by US Senate Taiwan Caucus co-chairs James Inhofe and Robert Menendez, urging the US Secretary of State to develop a strategy for Taiwan to regain its observer status in the WHO.
這項法案由參議院「台灣連線」共同主席殷荷菲與梅南德茲提出,要求美國國務卿提出策略,助台灣重獲WHO觀察員地位。

The bill was co-sponsored by nine Republican and Democratic senators: John Cornyn, Marco Rubio, John Boozman, Bill Cassidy, James Lankford, Ed Markey, Sherrod Brown, Joe Manchin and Mike Rounds.

The bill’s introduction came only days after the House unanimously passed the bill H.R. 353, which would require the Secretary of State to detail Washington’s efforts to help Taiwan regain observer status in the WHO in an annual report.
參議員提出此案前不久,眾議院才剛無異議通過H.R. 353法案,要求美國國務卿在年度報告中詳述美國政府如何協助台灣重獲WHO觀察員地位。

Inhofe said in a statement that China has blocked Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) through diplomatic bullying for three years in a row, and that actively assisting Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly (WHA) can help curb China’s influence on international organizations.

He said that Taiwan has long shown its strong commitment to world health issues and has actively participated in international organizations dealing with health issues. Taiwan has demonstrated its substantial positive leadership in these organizations, he said.

“China’s efforts to isolate Taiwan – even when it comes to such issues as global health – cannot go unanswered,” Menendez said.
