The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued a health advisory about the growing frequency of drug-resistant strains of Shigella bacteria.

The warning, which was released in February, followed the CDC report of a 5% increase in the proportion of bacterial infections that could not be treated with antibiotics, rising from zero in 2015 to 5% in 2022.
