An Olympic Truce for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 has been adopted by consensus and co-sponsored by 173 member states at the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The resolution urges for a halt of all hostilities from seven days before the start of the Olympic Games until seven days after the end of the Paralympic Games.

It also calls upon all member states to cooperate with the committee in order to promote peace, dialogue and reconciliation in areas of conflict during and beyond the period of the games.

However, the US has decided to turn its back on the games in protest of China’s human rights abuses.
