Hugo: I can’t stand this hot weather anymore. Look at my cellphone. It’s thirty-eight degrees!

Stella: My uncle in Germany said they don’t have an air conditioner at home, and they have a heatwave these days. The temperature in Europe is similar to that in Taiwan, or even higher.
史黛拉:我在德國的叔叔說他們在家沒有冷氣,而且他們這幾天有熱浪。歐洲的溫度跟台灣差不多,甚至還更高。

Hugo: Why don’t they get one?
雨果:他們為什麼不買一台呢?
Stella: Because the weather there is cool most of the time, they don`t think they need to buy one just for a few hot days.
史黛拉:因為他們大部分時間天氣都是涼爽的,所以他們不覺得需要為了炎熱的幾天買冷氣。
Hugo: If I lived in Europe, I would get one. I can’t sleep without an air conditioner.
雨果:如果我住在歐洲,我會買一台。我沒有冷氣就無法睡覺。
Stella: But it’s also hard to get one in some European countries. Some of their historic buildings need to be protected, and adding air conditioners would make them look different.
史黛拉:但在一些歐洲國家也很難有一台冷氣。有些具有歷史意義的建築需要被保護,而加裝冷氣會讓他們看起來不太一樣。
