The company estimated the impact of the computer virus outbreak, which affected a number of computer systems and fab tools in Taiwan, on third quarter revenue to be about 3%.

TSMC said in a news release that it had found a solution to the problem and about 80% of the company’s impacted tools had been back to normal, adding that it expected full recovery on August 6.

According to Bloomberg News, TSMC’s Chief Financial Officer Lora Ho said that “TSMC has been attacked by viruses before, but this is the first time a virus attack has affected our production lines.”

Since TSMC provides Apple’s semiconductors, this incident may cause shipment delays and additional costs. The company estimated the impact on gross margin to be about 1%.

However, TSMC said that full operations have resumed and it is expected to be able to fill orders on time for Apple.
