Travelers who transit at airports in Taiwan will soon be charged a fee of NT$500.
在台灣機場轉機的旅客很快就會被收取新台幣500元的費用。
According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications, this move will take effect on March 31.
交通部（MOTC）指出，新措施將於3月31日起生效。

The new policy will have airline companies collecting the fee as part of ticket costs or from passengers at the airports.
這項新政策將規定航空公司隨機票代收或是在機場向旅客收取轉機費。

The government’s decision to start charging transiting travelers was made because of the increasing amount of airport construction and the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on the costs of operating airports.
由於機場建設增加，加上新冠疫情對機場運營成本的影響，政府決定開始向轉機旅客收費。
With 1.2 million foreign passengers expected to transit in Taiwan’s airports in 2023, the new fee could earn the government as much as NT$550 million.
預計2023年將有120萬名外國旅客來台轉機，轉機費可望為政府帶來高達新台幣5.5億元的收入。

Most of this money will be put into the country’s main international air travel hub — Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
大部分資金將投入台灣主要的國際航空樞紐，也就是台灣桃園國際機場。
Although this fee is new for Taiwan, other regional airports, including Hong Kong International Airport, Japan’s Narita International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport, have already been charging travelers who transit in them.
儘管轉機費對台灣來說是新增的，但其他地區的香港國際機場、日本成田國際機場與新加坡樟宜機場早已向轉機旅客收取轉機費了。
Taiwan’s NT$500 fee is similar to these other airports’ charges, which range from NT$200 to NT$925.
台灣收取500元轉機費跟這些機場的收費差不多，這些機場的轉機費介於新台幣200元到925元不等。
