Frank and Sally are colleagues. They’re chatting in the office.

terrifying(adj.)非常可怕的scary(adj.)可怕的、恐怖的terrified(adj.)
Sally: It sure did. I heard that some cars and houses were seriously damaged by the tornado.

sure(adv.)當然、一定seriously(adv.)嚴重地damage(v.)破壞
Frank: Right. There was even a blackout because the tornado cut off all the power suddenly. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.

Sally: Speaking of tornadoes, I wonder how they form.
speaking of說到~wonder(v.)想知道form(v.)形成
Frank: Well, tornadoes form from thunderstorms. In a thunderstorm, when warm, moist air meets cool, dry air, it makes the wind turn and create a vortex. If the vortex becomes strong enough and touches the ground, it becomes a tornado.
thunderstorm(n.)暴風雨moist(adj.)濕潤的create(v.)製造出=makevortex(n.)
Sally: Wow! That’s a very clear explanation. You really know a lot!

Frank: Well, it’s nothing.
