Things You Should Never Say at a Job Interview
At a job interview, there are a few predictable questions interviewers always ask however it is still possible to stray from the focus of the question.
interview(n.)面試、訪談predictable(adj.)可預測的interviewer(n.)面試官stray(v.)偏題focus(n.)焦點
For example, “please make a self-introduction”, the very first question you would be asked, should be easy to answer; however, if you have not thought it through you might miss out on a great opportunity to promote yourself.
introduction(n.)介紹miss out on sth錯過某事opportunity(n.)機會promote(v.)推薦
Another example would be “why did you apply for this job?”
apply(v.)
If you are nervous and accidentally reveal that you have also applied to other companies, you are directly telling the interviewer you are not really taking this interview that seriously.
accidentally(adv.)不經意地、不小心地reveal(v.)透露apply(v.)應徵、申請directly(adv.)直接地interviewer(n.)
When many are asked about salary expectations, they simply answer, “I respect the company standard”, believing it’s an easy and humble way to dodge the question.
salary(n.)薪水expectation(n.)期待respect(v.)尊重standard(n.)標準humble(adj.)謙虛的dodge(v.)閃避
However, by not answering the question, you are exposing your lack of confidence to the interviewer.

Therefore, having enough understanding of the company’s basic information and being well prepared for any predictable questions in advance is essential.
therefore(adv.)因此predictable(adj.)可預測的in advance之前、事前essential(adj.)必要的
You will be a winner from the start if you can give a short self-introduction that is straight to the point, suggest a reasonable salary expectation, and emphasize on what you have learned and how you have grown from your past work experience.
