Taiwan was ranked as the 26th happiest country in the world and the happiest in East Asia in the World Happiness Report 2018.
台灣在《2018年世界快樂報告》中，名列全球第26快樂的國家，在東亞排名第一。
The report, released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations, ranked 156 countries by their happiness levels based on factors including GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity and corruption levels.
這項報告由聯合國資助的「永續發展解決方案網路」公布，評比156國的快樂程度， 依據人均國內生產總值、社會支援、預期壽命、人生抉擇的自由、社會互助和貪腐程度等因素評比。

Finland claims the title of “World’s Happiest Country”, moving up from the fifth place last year and nudging Norway into second place.

Rounding out the top 10 are Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia.

Most of the top 10 are social democracies, which “believe that what makes people happy is solid social support systems, good public services, and even paying a significant amount in taxes for that,” said Jeffrey D. Sachs, an editor of the report.

Most notably, there is a remarkable consistency between the happiness of immigrants and the locally born.

The finding indicates, “people essentially adjust to the average happiness level of the country they’re moving to,” said John Helliwell, a co-editor of the report and professor emeritus of economics at the University of British Columbia.

The immigrant happiness finding “shows the conditions that we live under matter greatly to our quality of life, that happiness is not only a matter of choice,” said Meik Wiking, chief executive of the Happiness Research Institute, an independent think tank based in Copenhagen.
