Astaxanthin was first discovered in a lobster by Nobel Prize winner Dr. Kuhn in 1938, and has been known to be part of the biological makeup of crustaceans and fish ever since. However, astaxanthin actually naturally originates in an algae! As algae is a link in the ecosystem’s food chain, astaxanthin may be found in many sea creatures, but it’s actually a product of algae. Haematococcus pluvialis algae have the highest content of astaxanthin.
蝦紅素最早是由諾貝爾獎得主Dr. Kuhn 1938 由龍蝦體內發現,也因發現來源的關係,讓人直覺聯想是來自於蝦、蟹、魚類體內。事實上,這是食物生態鏈(a food chain in the ecosystem)造成的因果關係,藻類有蝦紅素,蝦蟹吃藻,所以蝦蟹體內含有蝦紅素,所以真正的來源是藻類,尤以雨生紅球藻(Haematococcuspluvialis)含量最高!
