The Incredible Journey of a Camera Lost at Sea
When Serina Tsubakihara lost her camera while she was diving off Japan’s Ishigaki Island in 2015, she thought she would never see it again.

Fast forward three years and the camera was washed up on a beach in Taiwan and found by a group of students and their teacher from the Yue Ming Elementary School in Yilan during a clean-up event.
The camera was covered in barnacles and barely recognizable, but thanks to a waterproof case, remained in perfect condition.

Lee then posted on Facebook in Chinese and Japanese as several photos on the camera were taken in Japan.
Less than 12 hours later, his post received more than 10,000 shares and a response from the owner, Serina Tsubakihara.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Tsubakihara told the BBC. “I was super surprised when my friends told me about this and sent me the post with those pictures.”
Tsubakihara is currently a third-year student at Sophia University in Tokyo.
She said she lost the camera in 2015 while she was scuba diving off the island of Ishigaki, Okinawa, around 270 kilometers east of Taiwan.
“I was scuba diving and I lost the camera when one of my friends ran out of air and needed my help,” Tsubakihara said. “I am so lucky and happy to have this miracle opportunity to feel the kindness of people in my life.”

Tsubakihara said she is planning to visit Taiwan in June to pick up her camera and personally thank the teacher and students for finding it.
