Martin and Christine are university students studying biology. They are discussing Taiwan’s green iguana problem.

Martin: I’ve been there, but I just didn’t realize there were so many. I read that people removed over 57,000 of them across the country last year.
馬丁：我有去過啊，但我沒注意到數量有那麼多。我剛看到資料說去年全台被移除的綠鬣蜥超過57,000隻。
realize(v.)明白、意識到remove(v.)移除
Christine: Well, they removed over 46,000 in the first eight months of 2024. So the problem is getting worse!
克莉絲汀：而且今年2024年前八個月，就移除了超過46,000隻，所以問題越來越嚴重了！
Martin: That’s crazy! Why are there so many of them?
馬丁：這也太誇張了吧！為什麼會有那麼多？
Christine: There are more females laying more eggs, so there are many more young iguanas now. Also, there aren’t any other animals in Taiwan that kill and eat green iguanas.
克莉絲汀：因為現在有更多母鬣蜥產卵，所以年輕的綠鬣蜥數量大增。而且台灣也沒有其他動物會殺害或吃掉綠鬣蜥。

Christine: Yep. I heard they are damaging crops in some places. So the government is paying people more money to catch them now.
克莉絲汀：對啊，我聽說牠們在一些地方破壞農作物，所以政府現在提高捕捉獎金，鼓勵大家去抓。
