Taiwan’s export orders reached a record high in 2021, fueled by global demand for electronic components and information and communications devices, the Ministry of Economic Affairs reported.

According to data from the MOEA, the country’s export orders increased 26.3% from 2020 to US$674.13 billion last year, marking the biggest spike since 2005.

Huang Yu-ling, director of the MOEA’s Department of Statistics, said up-and-coming technologies such as 5G and high-performance computing devices have been ramping up global demand for electronic components.

Export orders for electronic components rose to US$207.4 billion in 2021, an increase of 28.5% from a year earlier.

Orders for information and communications products such as servers, notebooks and cellphones grew 17.4% to US$193.07 billion.

The combined orders for electronic components and information and communications products totaled US$400.47 billion in 2021, accounting for 59% of total exports, said the MOEA.
