A recent report released by Taiwan’s Central Bank has given three recommendations to help increase workers’ wages.
台灣中央銀行近日發布一份報告，提出三項建議以幫助提高勞工薪資。

The Central Bank also recommends that the government address efforts to unionize workplaces.

In Taiwan, it can be difficult for workers in small- and medium-sized enterprises to form unions due to the law that there must be 30 or more willing employees to do so.

Compared to Japan and South Korea, which legally allow as few as two workers to form a union, only 7.8% of Taiwan’s businesses are unionized — a rate much lower than Japan’s 16.9% and South Korea’s 12.5%.

To reach a higher percentage of unionized workplaces, the Central Bank has asked the government to look into lowering the threshold for the number of workers needed to form a union.
