Taiwanese female mountaineer, Chan Chiao-yu, successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 27.

Despite overcrowding at the mountaintop and the rising number of reported deaths of climbers, she managed to pull off the feat, making her the second Taiwanese woman to do so in history.

Due to weather factors and an increased number of climbing licenses, about 200 climbers tried to summit Mount Everest at the same time on May 22, causing a "traffic jam" on the mountaineering route.
由於天氣因素,以及登山許可證的核發數增加,今年約有200位登山者試圖要在5月22日登上聖母峰,造成登山路線的大塞車。

Since normally people can only spend a few minutes at the summit without extra oxygen supplies, the area near the peak where the climbers were queuing turned into a "death zone."

She thought about giving up because of her weakened physical state, but she eventually decided to complete her journey.

“My legs were really sore, and I coughed like I was going to throw up. But I kept thinking that I couldn’t give up. I decided to take advantage of the remaining few hours in order to reach the peak,” she said.

Finally, Chan set off again around 7:30 pm local time and successfully reached the summit at the 8,848-meter mark at 3:16 am on May 27.

While celebrating her accomplishment, Chan said it was a pity to have not been able to reach the summit at sunrise.
