Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council has recently issued a new interpretation of the law, stating that if a Taiwanese citizen is officially registered as a household resident in China, they will lose their household registration in Taiwan, which is key to their legal identity as a Taiwanese citizen.

According to the MAC, this refers to someone who holds both a Resident Identity Card issued by China and a Settlement Permit.
