Taiwan’s National Park Service has taken steps to protect mountain climbers during the snow season.

The service said that climbers without a permit or proper gear could face penalties. They may be fined or banned from national parks for up to three years.

The park service announced this after several tragedies on Taiwan’s mountains over the previous week.
