On May 2, the Taiwan dollar rose sharply against the US dollar, closing at 31.064, up from 32.017 on April 30. This rise of 3.07% — or 0.953 NT dollars — is the largest one-day increase in 23 years.
5月2日,新台幣兌美元大幅升值,收盤報31.064,較4月30日的32.017上升了0.953元新台幣,升幅為3.07%。這是23年來單日最大升幅。

The Central Bank said one reason is that people expected the Taiwan dollar to strengthen after news reports said the U.S. may ask trade partners to raise the value of their currencies during trade talks.
