
台日關係緊張
Relations worsened between Taiwan and Japan last week after a video emerged of a Japanese right-wing activist kicking a “comfort woman” statue in the southern city of Tainan.
上週,日本右派人士在台南踢了一座慰安婦的雕像,影片流出後,台灣和日本之間的關係惡化。

The footage shows Mitsuhiko Fujii, a representative for 16 conservative groups from Japan, kicking the statue as he was leaving the KMT headquarters in Tainan on September 6.

The monument was unveiled in mid-August to commemorate the Taiwanese women who were forced to serve as sex slaves for the Japanese military during World War Two.

The Japanese government has protested against the statue, calling it “extremely disappointing.”

In Taipei, more than a hundred people, many wearing white masks, gathered outside the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, calling on both the Japanese government and Fujii to apologize for the incident. They also demanded that Fujii kneel in front of the statue.
在台北,百餘人戴著白色面具聚集在日台交流協會外,呼籲日本政府和藤井為此事道歉,還要求藤井跪在雕像前。

Four pro-China activists were arrested for throwing paint at the association’s building and injuring its security guard.
