Taiwan Power Co. — or Taipower — experienced several challenges on Monday, April 15 and Tuesday, April 16 that saw the company avert power rationing in northern Taiwan and confront sudden blackouts elsewhere on the island.

According to TVBS News, Taipower feared that power rationing would be needed in Taipei and Keelung on the evening of April 15.

This situation arose due to a combination of generators at the Datan Power Plant being damaged during the April 3 earthquake and hot weather across Taiwan increasing electricity usage.

On April 16, Taipower customers in two Taoyuan locations suffered power outages at different times.

The first occurred at 1:16 p.m. near the Qingpu High-Speed Rail Special Zone, while the second one happened at 9:45 p.m. along Taoyuan’s Zhongzheng Road area; both lasted around two or more hours.
