Taipei City is planning to bid for the right to host the 2030 Asian Games, the world`s second-largest sports competition, after the Olympics.

Ko visited Japan from May 23 to 27 to exchange ideas with officials from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic organizing committee. The committee took him on a tour of the facilities that Japan has built for the upcoming Olympic Games.
柯文哲在5月23日至27日到日本進行訪問，與2020東京奧運組織委員會交流，委員會成員並帶柯市長參訪日本為了即將到來的奧運而建置的相關設施。

He also plans to send delegations to Hangzhou and Nagoya, host cities for the 2022 and 2026 Asiads. Ko hopes to observe how they are organizing the major international sports event in order to help Taiwan win the 2030 bid.
他也預計派代表團至2022年亞運負責城市杭州與2026年亞運舉辦城市名古屋，實地考察這兩個城市是如何籌備這場國際重大賽事，以幫助台灣贏得2030年亞運的主辦權。

“Taipei has proven its ability to host Asiad with its success in hosting the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade,” Ko said at the opening of the Taipei Tourism Expo on May 17.
在五月十七日的台北旅展開幕式當中，柯文哲市長提到，2017年成功舉辦台北世大運，證明了台北有能力可以舉辦亞運。

Ko promised to try his best to seek Beijing’s understanding and present Taiwan’s soft power to the world. "Taiwan should go global and should not be restricted to one place all the time," he emphasized.
