National Dong Hwa University released a statement last Saturday saying that it had requested the Ministry of Education (MOE) to assist with the release of a female Hong Kong student who was arrested during a pro-democracy demonstration.

The 20-year-old student, named Lee Sin-ying, participated in a protest in the Sham Shui Po area of Kowloon before she was arrested last Friday.

They said that Lee was being detained at a Hong Kong hospital while recovering from injuries suffered during the protests.

Dong Hwa University President Chao Han-chieh also called on MOE representatives in Hong Kong to offer assistance to the arrested student.

Meanwhile, the MAC said that Hong Kong’s government should respect its people’s right to protest and their freedom of speech, adding that it would work on this case with the MOE.
