Former South Korean President Park Geun-Hye has been sentenced to 25 years in prison over a corruption scandal that removed her from power and brought down the heads of Samsung and Lotte.
南韓前總統朴槿惠因貪污醜聞被判刑25年，這起事件不僅讓朴槿惠倒台，三星與樂天負責人也皆下台。

Ms. Park was found guilty of multiple counts of blackmailing, bribery, and abuse of power.

While serving as president, she worked together with a close friend, Choi Soon-sil, to force major Korean companies to pay billions of won to Choi’s family, as well as non-profit organizations owned by Park.
朴任職總統期間，她與好友崔順實聯手、威脅韓國多家大型公司送數十億韓元給崔順實的家人及朴槿惠的非營利組織。
Speaking at the ruling, judge Kim Mun-suk said that the former leader’s actions had damaged democracy and spread distrust in Korean society. “A strict penalty is unavoidable,” he said.
針對朴槿惠的判決，法官金文錫表示，前總統的行為破壞了民主並在韓國社會中散佈不信任感。他說：「嚴厲的刑罰無法避免。」

Park was originally given 24 years in prison in April, but that sentence has been extended to 25 years. She has also been fined 20 billion won (NT$550 million).

Park continues to deny all charges against her and says that she is the victim of political revenge.

She first came to office as the country’s first female leader in 2012. However, the scandal has been a lethal blow to both her and her conservative peers, allowing for her liberal successor Moon Jae-in to walk into the presidential office with a landslide victory in the 2017 elections.
