According to Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower), the blazing hot sun on September 2nd came with a pleasant surprise. It was estimated to have generated two Gigawatts (GW) of power, an output that exceeded Taiwan’s biggest nuclear power plant on that day.

In Taoyuan, the thermometer even registered a whopping 36 degrees Celsius. At the peak of the heat, the generation of solar photovoltaic (PV) power in the country reached its highest level at 2.09 GW, surpassing both the second and third nuclear power plants, which reached levels of 1.97GW and 1.9 GW respectively.

It was the first time that solar PV generation has passed the 2-GW mark in Taiwan, Taipower said.

It added that the maximum power supply on September 2nd was approximately 39.6 GW, while overall power consumption reached 35.2 GW, with an ample reserve margin of 13.19%.
讓9月2日的供電最大值來到約396萬瓩,而整體用電量為352萬瓩,備用容量率高達13.19%。

Currently, the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Energy (BOE) has come up with a new two-year plan to promote the installation of solar PV facilities such as rooftop solar panels and ground-mounted solar panels. It aims to meet a target of 3.7 GW by the end of 2019, and 6.5 GW by the end of 2020.
目前經濟部能源局已經推出新的兩年計畫,打算推廣太陽能光電發電設施的設置,像是屋頂型太陽光電裝設或是地面型太陽能發電系統,目標在2019年底達到370萬瓩發電量,並在2020年底可有650萬瓩發電量。
