The club’s historic run is coming to an end in order to make way for the government to develop the nearly 600 acres of land on which the racing facility sits.

As the country with the least amount of land in Southeast Asia, Singapore has decided to close down the Turf Club to use the site for creating more housing and public space for its residents.

With a population of around 6 million people living in a small area, the country will better meet the needs of all Singaporeans by developing the club’s land in the suburb of Kranji.

Although horse racing has become less popular in Singapore over the past 10 years, the club has enjoyed many historic moments, such as several visits by Britain’s late Queen Elizabeth II.

The chairman of the Turf Club, Niam Chiang Meng, said that the closing is sad news, but he hopes that the land will help serve the community in the future.
