Sharon and David are college classmates. They are talking about Taiwan’s military.

David: I just heard on the news that Taiwan’s military is trying new things to make its defenses better.

Sharon: Yeah, that’s right. To help keep the country safe, retired female soldiers were asked to return for volunteer training this year.

Sharon: I read that there are around 9,800. The first group of 14 of these women already started their training.

David: For sure. The military isn’t just for men anymore. Women who love the country can also do their part.
