YG Gallery is honored to present David Wang’s solo exhibition, “Behind the Scenes,” from September 2 to September 28. The exhibition features a series of his latest works completed during his residency in Lyon, France in 2019.

Wang, who was born in 1984 and has an MFA degree from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, is one of the most promising young artists in this decade.

Being unarguably good at handling light and shadow, Wang took his training in brush and paint to the next level by applying these two-dimensional media to gigantic pieces of cardboard, making huge paper and mixed media installations.

In the show, a 400-square-meter paper installation titled “Nowhere-Now Here” stands in the center of the gallery.

The multiple shades of white bring the viewers’ attention to the change of tones and finally the huge shadow cast under it.
這件作品運用不同層次的白色色調吸引觀眾留意色彩明暗變化,最終引導觀眾的目光到作品下方投射出的陰影。

Wang said that through this installation, he wants to reflect on the idea that “people might have taken their homes for granted.” “When people see this work, they may realize it’s a blessing to have a warm home as a shelter,” said Wang.
王衛說,透過這項裝置,他想讓觀眾思考「他們或許把自己的家視作理所當然」,他說:「當觀眾看到這件作品時,他們可能會發現有家這個遮風避雨的港灣是多麼幸福。」

Selected works from “Behind the Scenes” will also be shown in May at Art Basel in Hong Kong as part of YG’s feature exhibition.
