On March 21, President Lai Ching-te announced that some members of Taiwan’s military will receive pay raises starting April 1.

Lower-level officers will get the highest raises, up to NT$15,000 monthly.

Combat unit soldiers will get allowances of NT$12,000. Those in support units will receive NT$7,000.

Lai emphasized that these raises are important because the military plays an important role in protecting Taiwan and maintaining peace in the Asia-Pacific.
