The 26-year-old co-founder of Oculus Luckey is a classical example of this: he skipped college to start his own company. However, he wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, “unless you have a good reason and finding yourself doesn’t count.”

Despite his own success, Luckey does not endorse the path that he himself took to most young people.

“My advice to people is always [not] to be afraid to take a break from college if you have a good reason,” he said. “If you grab an opportunity and you feel like you do have that type of drive to fulfill something, you should definitely take a break from school. But traveling or taking time to decide what you want to do with your life, some call it a gap year, is not a reason to quit.”
