總統隨扈走私近萬條香菸
The chief of Taiwan’s top intelligence agency has stepped down after an agent was caught using President Tsai Ing-wen’s state visit overseas as a cover to smuggle NT$6 million-worth of cigarettes into the country.
日前傳出國安局人員利用蔡英文總統出訪作掩護，走私價值約600萬元新台幣的香菸，事發後國安局局長已下台負責。

National Security Bureau (NSB) head Peng Sheng-chu tendered his resignation on Monday to take responsibility for the incident.

The scandal came to light when New Power Party lawmaker Huang Kuo-chang revealed on his Facebook page that an NSB agent had tried to smuggle cigarettes as President Tsai was returning home from a trip to the Caribbean on Monday morning.

Customs officials have confirmed the story after finding the cigarettes and impounding the whole batch.

The presidential office said that Tsai was “shocked and angered” by the scandal and had ordered an investigation into the case.
