NHIA’s DET Changes Could Harm Taiwan Pharmaceutical Market
Beginning in 2013, Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Administration established the Drug Expenditure Target as a system to adjust the price of specific pharmaceuticals “when actual drug expenditure exceeds the annual target.”

Data from the NHIA shows that in 2024, drug price adjustments under the DET were made to 4,500 drugs, leading to an expenditure reduction of NT$5.53 billion.

However, October 2023 research from IQVIA notes that updates to the DET system made on Sept. 11, 2023 could harm Taiwan’s pharmaceutical market.

update(n.)(v.)更新
Under these changes, both the “actual transaction price” of each drug as well as “the benchmark lowest price from the Advanced 10 countries” (the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, the U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Switzerland) would be factored into price adjustments.

The report states that seven of the 10 leading pharmaceutical products in Taiwan would be subject to price reductions based on the benchmark lowest price of Advanced 10 countries, and because some of them have either generic or similar drugs in the NHIA system.

as a result因此=therefore
Certainly, saving money is a priority for the NHIA.
certainly(adv.)當然undoutedly(adv.)
However, the IQVIA argues that such dramatic price drops in a short period of time could cause global pharmaceutical companies to rethink how they launch new products in the Taiwan market.
