News Sources, Media Bias and Voting
Media bias is the idea that where people get their news can influence what information they get and how it is reported.
While some bias naturally occurs from the limited availability of facts and the inability of every story to be covered, some news outlets — newspapers, television stations and online sites — purposely choose to present news with a clear political stance or partisan viewpoint.

Commonly called “fake news,” this is not actually a type of bias but a deliberate presentation of information that is “without basis or fact.”

In fact, fake news can even become a type of propaganda tool used by those hoping to influence the intentions of voters and, ultimately, the outcome of elections.

Given the multiple channels through which people receive news nowadays, presentations of biased or false news can play into individuals’ personal political biases to either directly or indirectly affect their voting behaviors.

However, since many people reportedly choose news sources based on their own political beliefs, whether media bias and false news actually has the power to change voters’ attitudes has yet to be proven.
