A recent survey by consulting company Gallup shows that reports of negative emotions — including sadness, worry and stress — have increased over the last decade, reaching a record high in 2017.

For the study, researchers spoke face-to-face with 154,000 people in different countries around the world, asking them questions such as “Did you feel well rested yesterday?”, “Are people treating you with respect?” and “Have you smiled or laughed a lot recently?”.
