A proposed bill would make it illegal for employers to ask their employees to check or respond to emails, texts and calls after work hours.

The “Disconnecting from Work” bill, introduced by City Council Member Rafael Espinal Jr. from Brooklyn, would apply to private companies with more than ten employees and cover calls, emails, texts, as well as other forms of electronic communications sent after stated work hours.
