The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), known by its four letters, has become all the rage in South Korea, recently being embraced by the country’s “MZ Generation,” made up of Millennials and Gen Zers, to help them find love.

Developed by two Americans, Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, the MBTI was originally used as a “way of matching women to jobs during World War II.”

The test itself groups people into 16 “types” based on their answers defined by different personality traits, assigning each type a four-letter code.

Some critics have noted that the personality type assigned by the MBTI would not be “appropriate to use…to try and identify a compatible partner” due to the inconsistencies in the test’s results.

Additionally, Myung Ho Lim, a Dankook University psychology professor, points out that the test’s errors of overgeneralization in assigning type as well as people’s fixation on the apparent truth of the results make the test an unreliable tool for helping to find potential partners.
