Electric car manufacturer Tesla was about a month away from bankruptcy as it struggled to ramp up production of its Model 3 vehicle between 2017 and 2019, CEO Elon Musk revealed in a Twitter post.

Musk has often talked about the “production and logistics hell” of taking a new electric vehicle into mass production. However, he had never disclosed that the company was close to filing for bankruptcy—although he did joke about a bankruptcy filing in a separate tweet on April Fool Day’s in 2018.
