Many migrant workers who became disabled as a result of occupational accidents in Taiwan did not claim disability compensation, a report by the Control Yuan revealed.

An investigation by the country’s top watchdog found that unclaimed compensation benefits owed to disabled migrant workers due to injuries at work totaled NT$40 million over the past 10 years.

The findings have prompted the Control Yuan to urge the Ministry of Labor to ameliorate the problem. In response, the MOL said workers’ rights and interests should be safeguarded regardless of their nationalities.
