Rush hour commuters on the Taipei MRT’s Red Line faced delays of nearly 40 minutes on Thursday, April 25 due to a man jumping onto the tracks at the Minquan West Road Station.

According to Taiwan News, once the man entered the tracks, he was hit by an oncoming train and pinned under the front of it.

Despite the man not being seriously injured, the station had to close the tracks while he was helped by emergency crews.

The incident happened at 4:51 p.m., when the 33-year-old man climbed over a platform barrier and jumped onto the tracks in front of an approaching train.

Taiwan News reported that the man only suffered a broken foot and was taken to Mackay Memorial Hospital to receive medical care.

After the incident, police began trying to find out why the man had jumped onto the tracks.

At the same time, the Taipei Metro said that it would fine the man NT$1 million — the highest amount allowed — because he broke the law by entering the MRT tracks and delaying trains.
與此同時，台北捷運公司表示將對該男子處以新台幣一百萬元的罰款，也就是法定最高金額，因為他進入捷運軌道延誤列車的行為違反了法律。
