Taipei’s Mackay Memorial Hospital reported on March 6 that hackers possibly stole 16.6 million documents in an online attack.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Lee Chien-chang, these files may have included patients’ medical records.

The Taipei Times has said that the attack occurred in early February.

Due to these two incidents, the ministry is developing guidelines for how hospitals should respond to online attacks.
