Audrey and Patrick are friends. They are chatting.
Audrey: Patrick, have you heard of this new trend called “living stylishly on a budget”?
trend(n.)趨勢upward trend向上的趨勢downward trend向下的趨勢buck the trend逆勢stylishly(adv.)
Patrick: Oh, I think I heard something about it. It’s about having a good life even if you don’t have a lot of money, right?
even if即使even though儘管、雖然
Audrey: Yes, that’s right. People who follow this trend buy expensive things and enjoy their lives, even if they don’t have a lot of money. They look rich on the outside but are actually poor.
Patrick: Well, you never know what will happen tomorrow, so why not enjoy today?
Audrey: But prices keep going up, and it’s getting harder for young people to buy a house. I don’t want to spend all my money and feel sad about it later.
spend(v.)
Patrick: But you don’t have to be unhappy, Audrey. I think there’s a way to balance saving money and enjoying life. You can still buy nice things and go on trips, just maybe not all the time.
balance(v.)(n.)(使)平衡strike a balance between A and B取得A與B之間的平衡
Audrey: I agree with you on that, Patrick. Maybe we can find a way to have a steady life by learning from each other and finding common ground.
agree with sb. on sth.在某事上同意某人steady(adj.)
Patrick: Yes, we can learn from each other and find a way to enjoy life while still being smart with our money.
