The Ruenfu Seniors’ Residence was not established with the intention of housing sick people, but instead, to give seniors the ability to live on their own. It’s not a nursing home, but rather an “anti-aging” home.

Their goal is to enable people who have worked hard for a lifetime to continue living a healthy and happy life after retirement. Instead of being cooped up at home, like a third-class citizen who waits to eat, waits to sleep and waits for death, Ruenfu gives the elderly a new lease on life.
目的是要讓一輩子辛勞的人們，在退休後能繼續健康快樂的生活，而不是窩在家裡，成為等吃、等睡、等死的「三等公民」。

Originally, the best environment for growing old was in the home, but today, it has become increasingly rare to find three generations living under one roof. Most children have left home and the requirements for hiring foreign caretakers are becoming stricter. The time has come to effectively integrate resources within the senior care industry.
原本在家是最好的養老環境，但現今社會三代同堂已屬罕見，加上子女多半離巢打拚，而外籍看護的門檻也日益增高，於是能整合資源的安養機構順勢興起，

Yang Zi-jing, Chairman of the Ruenfu Seniors’ Residence, points out that a senior citizen has three assets — their body, their savings and companionship. Their body has to remain healthy. Their money needs a financial plan. As for companionship, the residents at Ruenfu live together, eat together, learn together, enjoy fun activities together and do become a kind of second family to each other. The residents have many daily interactions with others and this naturally reduces the risk of dementia and other disabling conditions.
楊董直接指出，老人得有三寶，就是老身、老本還有老伴，老身就是要有健康的身體，老本就是完善的財務規劃，至於老伴就是住戶們透過共居、共餐、共學、共樂成為沒有血緣的親族，生活互動多，自然能減少失智與失能的風險。

After retiring as the former head of the Criminal investigation Bureau, Yang currently runs the Ruenfu Seniors’ Residence by incorporating expertise and know-how from his past work experience. He said that the essence of police work is to serve the people and the same holds true at Ruenfu. So, whether it is environmental safety, fire safety, or even settling resident disputes, his past experience comes into play and allows him to help Ruenfu handle any issues that may surface within the community.

Over the past 22 years, through learning by doing, Yang and his colleagues have become industry experts. Since this is a care-driven service, the service staff must be tender, compassionate and empathetic. Therefore, Ruenfu has held off building a second residence as they want to make certain that they have not only a qualified but also a caring staff in place to run it.
但二十二年來他和同仁們，仍是在摸索和實踐中才逐漸成為內行，因為這是一個「心」的服務，服務人員一定要天使心、關愛心、同理心，也因照顧人員養成不易，即便如今供不應求，仍不打算增建二館。

If a resident doesn’t make it to a meal or is not feeling well, the staff is there to check on them to make sure that they’re okay. Anything out of the ordinary is thoroughly checked out and followed up on.

Ruenfu operates under the principle that this industry depends on people — people who are sincere and caring in their service to the elderly. There have been instances in which Ruenfu residents have wanted to give their caretakers an inheritance in their will. This, of course, was graciously declined, but it goes to show just how much passion is put into the service at Ruenfu.

Currently, Ruenfu has a second-generation of households moving in. They say, “We have seen how you’ve been operating for twenty years, so we know what good care you’ve given to our parents!” While many people regard becoming elderly as the end of their life’s journey, Yang, who is 88-years-old himself, and his fellow residents at Ruenfu are still living a full life every step along the way.
