As the world’s largest toy-maker, LEGO consumes about 5,000 metric tons of plastic a year on its packaging and 90,000 metric tons of plastic a year to make its pieces.

In order to reduce its environmental impact, the company has decided to package its products with recyclable paper starting next year and phase out single-use plastic bags by the end of 2025.

Brooks said that the eco-friendly bricks will be just as safe and durable as plastic ones, with the same colors as older bricks, while being easy enough for a child to click together and pull apart.
