Lai Ching-te, the president-elect of Taiwan, announced during a January 17 meeting of the Democratic Progressive Party’s Central Standing Committee that he was leaving the party’s New Tide faction to “be seen as representing the whole nation” when he enters office.
台灣總統當選人賴清德在1月17日的民進黨中常會上宣布,上任後將「代表整個國家」,因此退出黨內的新潮流系。

For instance, former chief convener of the New Tide faction and former DPP legislator Tuan Yi-kang has noted that Lai’s exit from the faction was “discussed during campaigning” and determined by “all sides” to be extremely beneficial for the unity of the country.
