The first session of Taiwan’s newly sworn-in lawmakers was held on February 1, 2024, with members casting their votes to determine who would become the speaker of the country’s 11th Legislature.

Despite the need for a runoff, the Kuomintang’s Han Kuo-Yu won the speakership, defeating former speaker You Si-kun of the Democratic Progressive Party and Huang Shan-shan of the Taiwan People’s Party in the process.
