Kirstjen Nielsen, the secretary of Homeland Security, has left the position after President Donald Trump announced the news on Twitter on April 7th. Sources pointed out that Nielsen did not resign willingly.

An ongoing crisis along the southern border between the United States and Mexico had been one of the main reasons behind Nielsen’s departure, as Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with the situation and had been putting the blame on Nielsen.

According to CNN, Nielsen had a meeting at the White House with Trump on April 7th where she was planning to discuss with him the immigration and border issues to help find a path forward. She had no intention of resigning at that time.
